{"id":3865,"date":"2024-01-12T13:50:37","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T13:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wanetam.net\/?p=3865"},"modified":"2024-01-12T13:50:37","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T13:50:37","slug":"promoting-grantsmanship-and-effective-management-of-clinical-trials-to-advance-malaria-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cpchq.org\/new\/promoting-grantsmanship-and-effective-management-of-clinical-trials-to-advance-malaria-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Promoting grantsmanship and effective management of clinical trials to advance malaria research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On 8th January 2024, WANETAM commenced a week-long Malaria Grant Writing and Clinical Trials Management Workshop, organised in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/noguchi.ug.edu.gh\/\">Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research<\/a> (NMIMR) at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ug.edu.gh\/\">University of Ghana<\/a>. Bringing together 20 early postdoctoral fellows from 6 West African countries, the workshop enhanced participants\u2019 skills in competitive grantsmanship and is expected to boost the capacities of participants\u2019 institutions in community-based cluster randomised trials and management.<br>Speaking at the start of the workshop, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dorothy-yeboah-manu-94a77822\/?originalSubdomain=gh\">Professor Dorothy Yeboah-Manu<\/a>, Director of NMIMR and deputy lead of <a href=\"https:\/\/wanetam.net\/work-package-1-tuberculosis\/\">WANETAM\u2019s tuberculosis work package<\/a> mentioned that \u201cthe workshop is an opportunity for networking and collaboration among fellows from different West African countries. It fosters shared learning, avails new opportunities and resources and promotes joint applications for research funding.\u201d<br>For <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/alfred-amambua-ngwa-8a230416\/\">Professor Alfred Amambua-Ngwa<\/a>, MRC Investigator in Genetic Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases at the MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM and the network\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/wanetam.net\/work-package-2-malaria\/\">malaria work package<\/a> lead, the workshop is aimed at improving malaria research grantsmanship for early and developing career malaria scientists in West Africa.<br>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/ajibaye-olusola-3369b928\/\">Dr. Olusola Ajibaye<\/a>, a malaria genomics and immunogenetics researcher at the <a href=\"https:\/\/nimr.gov.ng\/\">Nigerian Institute of Medical Research<\/a>, the potential impact of workshop on his research career is significant, as the workshop has demystified the complex process and requirements for successful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/\">NIH<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edctp.org\/\">EDCTP<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/councils\/mrc\/\">MRC<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wellcome.org\/\">Wellcome Trust<\/a> grants applications for his and other participants. \u201cThe workshop will invigorate and impact, not only my career, but careers of all WANETAM postdoctoral fellows and our mentees in our various institutions back home\u201d he said.<br>Recognising that early career African researchers becoming research leaders and research solution providers largely depends on grants acquisition and research development, this workshop is part of the malaria work package\u2019s activities to strengthening research capacity around the disease and promote learning, exchange and collaboration in malaria research and grantsmanship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 8th January 2024, WANETAM commenced a week-long Malaria Grant Writing and Clinical Trials Management Workshop, organised in collaboration with the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) at the University of Ghana.
